Corn bread and chili.

I refer to this as a winter meal because it is, along with farina/soups/stews, something that I only eat during the colder months.

Step 1

Acquire giant bowl/mug

Kinja'd!!!

Snazzy super-hero branding optional.

Step 2

Put cornbread in said bowl/mug. If cornbread is not fresh heat up in the oven for a few minutes.

Kinja'd!!!

in this case I got fresh cornbread in slice form from sister-in-law

Step 3

Smother in chili.

Kinja'd!!!

Make your own or heat up some canned stuff. 1 can yields one serving.

Step 4

Kinja'd!!!

How about you guys, anyone else’s dietary habits change with the seasons?

For something quick? Yes. Otherwise, no.

I learned the hard way that people consider that stuff chili when my wife said she was making “chili” one night, and it turned out to be some canned Hormel crap that was heated on a stove and unceremoniously slopped into a bowl. I asked what she was serving me, and when she said her family always had this for chili I wept and cradled her in my arms. Then I made real chili.

I second that chili is too easy to make to settle for canned. But you got a quick, nice, calorie-dense hot meal. Nice.

Not the difficulty, but the time. Canned chili is 5 minutes. Real chili is at least 30 min and up to several hours.

Fair enough...but 30 minutes and you get 10+ servings to save, plus a lot less sodium, grease, and preservatives and all the other junk you probably don’t want on a regular basis.

/not a Hormel Hater, just saying

I agree with you. I was just defending the quick meal argument. I’d rather make it fresh.

I tend to like stews/soups more during the winter months but I eat them year round. I think my drinking habits change more with the seasons - usually beers during the warmer periods and more liquor and darker, higher alcohol beers during the cold months.

My alcohol consumption doesn’t really ever vary, but my coffee intake greatly increases.
